Past

I was born in Wigan. After moving from Portsmouth to Newquay at 6 years old I learned to surf. At age 15, after recovering from knee injuries (which occurred when I was 10) I started to approach surfing much more seriously. I focused on competitive surfing and placed in 22 finals through the U14, U16, U18 and U20 categories. I finished school with 13 GCSE passes and I am currently studying for a degree in Business Studies through Open University which offers flexibility to be able to concentrate on surfing as well as education. I also hold BSA Level One Coach and NARs Beach Lifeguard Awards.

Present

I believe I am one of Britain’s top junior surfers. I’ve racked up more air miles than many surfers twice my age, with exploits in far flung destinations such as Barbados, Tanzania, Bangladesh and Mexico. My thirst for travel, exploration and adventure has resulted in coverage in National and International surf media on a regular basis.

My approach to surfing is fuelled by determination to push my limits. In July 2008 I became “the youngest person to surf The Cribbar”, one of Britain’s most notable big wave spots. Other favorite waves include the slabs of North Scotland and the ledging lefts of Yorkshire. I’ve got a passion for flawless barrels and skin scraping reefs and hope I can push myself as far as possible – whilst remaining in one piece!

On the contest scene I’ve achieved titles such as British Schools Champion and Welsh Junior Champion, as well as wins and finals in regional and national contests. I qualified for the 2007 ISA World Junior Championships and the 2008 European Junior Championships, placing 43rd and 8th respectively, becoming Britain’s and Wales’ highest placed surfer (in his age category) in both events. I also claimed the “Young Guns Award” at the Carve British Surfing Awards.

Future

As well as enjoying freesurfing, I’m aiming to build on previous results in UK surf comps and compete on the ASP Europe Pro Junior Tour. It’s also my intention to rack up some more air miles in search of perfect waves.

The future?? I’m 18. I’m working on it! Watch this space...
